The Top Five Qualities a Ghostwriter Should Have

A Ghostwriter Shares The Inside Track

Ghostwriting is a craft.

As I mentioned in the last post, selecting the right ghostwriter for your project is crucial.

The ghostwriting process brings your book concept to life and is deeply intricate. Before you invest your money, you need to ensure the ghostwriter has these five basic qualities to do your concept justice.

Hiring a ghostwriter is also an investment, so you want to ensure you make the best choice.

Before we begin, make sure you subscribe to the Write Way Consulting website so that you never miss a blog post.

Now let's get to the list. I listed the following qualities in no particular order.

  1. Passion For Their Craft: A strong ghostwriter needs above-average writing skills, of course, but they should also have a burning passion for writing. Writing is a skill that is served best when there is a love for the craft. When interviewing a potential ghostwriter, ask them if they love to write. If they answer that it's okay or they like it, or if they say they write only because they know how to—RUN!

  2. Top-Notch Communication Skills: A ghostwriter should be able to understand your book's content and ask you compelling questions to get the best content out of you. They can't do that if they are not an effective communicator. I jokingly say that a ghostwriter needs to be a part-journalist to get the most profound content from you.

  3. Research Skills: Depending on your book's topic, it may be helpful to add information or knowledge that you or your ghostwriter may not readily know. This additional information requires additional research. You need a ghostwriter willing to dig in the resources, not just digital ones either, to get you the information you need.

  4. Flexibility: Hire a ghostwriter that can adapt and switch up at a moment's notice, without throwing off the flow of work. Sometimes you may have an alternative idea of how a chapter should go. You should be able to communicate this to your competent and talented ghostwriter, who will take the changes in stride and be able to keep it moving toward completing your project.

  5. Confidentiality: Your project is private, proprietary business and you need a ghostwriter who exercises strict discretion. Nothing more nothing less needs to be mentioned for this one.

Now, keep in mind that this is a basic list. There are more qualities that a strong ghostwriter needs to have, so feel free to explore the possibilities of what will serve your personal project the best.

Well, that's the end of this ever so quick, yet informative blog. We'll catch up next week.
